Smoothies, in one form or another, have been around for a long time. Today’s version became a trend in the 1960’s when vegetarian diets became popular. Combining fruit, juice, and ice, they make a wonderful treat. Some people add vitamins and supplements to create a nutritious meal replacement drink. Today there are specialized appliances so that to enjoy this tasty drink, people don’t even have to leave the comfort of their home. A maker smoothie comes in all shapes and sizes.

Before small appliance companies started making machines specifically for this purpose, consumers would use a blender. A blender can still be used, but sometimes making sure that the ice is crushed enough can pose a problem. No one wants big chunks of ice in what is supposed to be a smooth and refreshing drink. For those that enjoy smoothies on a regular basis, a smoothie maker is definitely the way to go.

The first thing to consider is the capacity. These appliances vary from single serve varieties, to 5- and 6-cup capacity types on average. There are even dual serve types that offer the flexibility of making more than one flavor of smoothie at one time, or a big batch for guests.

An automatic pour spout is another feature to consider. This offers the convenience of not having to pour out of a heavy pitcher, and avoiding the possibility of a mess. The great thing about these machines is that they have a little more power than the average blender. This means that the ice gets pulverized more efficiently. They can also handle thicker drinks with no problem and easily blend milk shakes and other frozen drinks as well.

Shopping around for a smoothie maker will be important in order to find one that not only meets the consumer’s needs, but their budget as well. They can range in price from about $20 to hundreds of dollars, but one can expect to get a good, versatile maker smoothie for an average of about $50-$60. There is a smoothie maker out there for everyone, especially with all of the options and differences in price.

Green is In! Homemade Smoothies For Prime Health

By Heather Stanford
Green is not the usual color we usually associate with a tasty drink. In fact, some would balk at the idea of drinking a green beverage based on the appearance alone.
